Tom started learning the construction trades in 1999 when enrolled in the metal fabrication vocational program at Taconic High School. In the same year, Tom installed his first roof with Jason and his family. Tom continued to install roofs throughout high school and completed the vocational program, graduating from Taconic High School. At this time Tom enlisted in the United States Navy, serving 6 years before being honorably discharged, serving a tour of duty in Iraq.
When Tom returned home, he enrolled at Berkshire Community College, earning a degree in Fire Science, with a heavy focus in building construction. Throughout college Tom continued to work in the construction trades, and intermittently installing roofs with the Smegal family. After college Tom was hired by the Pittsfield Fire Department where he continues to serve the community as a Firefighter and Fire Investigation Technician in the Arson Investigation Unit.
In 2019, after 20-years in the trades Tom started estimating, and selling roofs for Jason. He has extensive knowledge of the Klaus Roofing System and general building construction. Since becoming part of the team Tom has been involved in several of our largest, complex commercial projects to the smallest reroofs for a garden shed. Tom truly enjoys helping customers identify problems, and work together to come to a solution for fixing it. He finds satisfaction in seeing a project through.
Tom is a proud husband and father of three children. When he is not at work enjoys time with his family, attending his children’s extracurricular activities, boating, and classic cars.
