Replacing Three Layers of Shingles on a West Hartford, CT Colonial

This West Hartford, CT Colonial had three layers of deteriorated shingles that needed to be removed and replaced with a new roofing system. We always recommend starting with a fresh layer, as opposed to covering up asphalt and plywood that have been compromised by moisture. Though layering shingles was once a common practice, standards have changed drastically, and multiple layers can often hinder a home's chances of getting insurance or being sold on the market. Many insurance companies now insure by the layer. Poor ventilation is also attributed to multi-layering, as it causes your attic to suffocate, builds ice dams and will rapidly worsen any preexisting conditions. Having one complete layer with properly placed vents and underlayment will provide total protection, without having to worry about the eroded shingles lurking beneath.
